Forest School Sessions
At Haven House, our children attend Forest School sessions every Tuesday and Thursday. These sessions offer a wonderful opportunity to learn and play in the natural environment, where the outdoors becomes an extension of the classroom.
Forest School supports children’s development in so many ways. Through activities such as exploring, building, and problem-solving, children grow in confidence, independence, and resilience. Working together in small groups also encourages cooperation, communication, and the ability to manage challenges in a supportive setting.

Learning through Nature
At Haven House, Forest School gives children the chance to learn in a hands-on, natural environment. Being outdoors sparks curiosity and encourages children to explore, ask questions, and make discoveries for themselves.
Whether they are observing wildlife, collecting leaves, or experimenting with natural materials, every experience becomes an opportunity to develop problem-solving skills and creativity.
Supporting Well being & Confidence
Forest School provides a safe, nurturing environment where children can take gentle risks, make choices, and learn at their own pace. This freedom helps them build self-confidence and a sense of independence as they discover what they are capable of.
Spending time outdoors also supports emotional well-being. The natural environment encourages calm, focus, and resilience, giving children space to manage challenges and celebrate successes. Through these experiences, they not only grow in confidence but also develop a positive sense of self and the skills to face new situations with curiosity and courage.
Art
At our childcare center, we incorporate art activities as a vital part of our curriculum to support children's development according to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) guidelines. Art plays a crucial role in fostering creativity and self-expression, enabling children to explore their imagination and communicate their ideas in unique ways. Through engaging with various art materials and techniques, children develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as they cut, glue, paint, and draw.
Art also supports personal, social, and emotional development by encouraging children to express their emotions and build confidence as they share their creations with peers. Additionally, art activities enhance cognitive skills by promoting problem-solving and critical thinking, as children make decisions about colors, shapes, and compositions. By participating in art, children learn to appreciate diversity and cultural awareness through exposure to different artistic traditions and styles. Our art program aligns with the EYFS framework, ensuring a holistic approach to nurturing your child's growth and development in a fun and supportive environment.
Music
Haven House incorporates music as an integral part of our curriculum to support children's development in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Music plays a vital role in enhancing children's communication and language skills, as they learn to listen attentively, follow rhythms, and expand their vocabulary through songs and rhymes. Engaging with music activities also promotes physical development, helping children improve their coordination and motor skills through dance and movement.
Music encourages personal, social, and emotional development by fostering a sense of belonging and cooperation as children participate in group singing and musical games. Additionally, music stimulates cognitive development by boosting memory, concentration, and pattern recognition skills. Through exposure to diverse musical genres and instruments, children gain cultural awareness and appreciation for different traditions. Our music program is designed to inspire joy and creativity while supporting your child's overall growth in a nurturing and fun environment.
Movement
We emphasise the importance of movement in supporting children's development in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Movement activities are essential for enhancing children's physical development, helping them build strength, balance, and coordination through activities like running, jumping, and climbing. Engaging in movement also supports fine motor skills as children participate in activities that require precision, such as threading, stacking, and manipulating small objects.
Movement is a powerful tool for promoting personal, social, and emotional development by encouraging children to express themselves, manage their emotions, and build self-confidence. Group movement activities foster social skills and cooperation, as children learn to share space and work together. Additionally, movement aids cognitive development by improving concentration, memory, and problem-solving abilities through active play and exploration. Our movement program is designed to be fun and inclusive, ensuring that your child develops essential skills in a supportive and dynamic environment.
Language
At Haven House, we prioritise language development as a core component of our curriculum, in alignment with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Language is crucial for children's communication skills, enabling them to express their thoughts, needs, and emotions effectively. Through interactive storytelling, songs, and conversations, we create a rich language environment that expands children's vocabulary and comprehension. These activities also support social and emotional development by fostering connections and empathy as children learn to listen, share, and understand different perspectives.
Language development is closely linked to cognitive growth, enhancing critical thinking and problem-solving abilities as children ask questions and explore new concepts. Our language-rich program also includes exposure to diverse cultures and languages, promoting inclusivity and cultural awareness. By nurturing language skills in a supportive and engaging setting, we help children build a strong foundation for lifelong learning and success.
Mathematics
We integrate mathematics into our curriculum as a fundamental part of supporting children's development in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Engaging with mathematical concepts from an early age helps children develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they explore numbers, shapes, patterns, and measurements in a fun and interactive way. Our activities are designed to promote numeracy and a strong mathematical foundation through play-based learning, such as counting games, puzzles, and building blocks.
Mathematics also supports cognitive development by enhancing children's ability to reason, make predictions, and understand cause-and-effect relationships. Additionally, mathematical activities foster personal, social, and emotional development by encouraging cooperation, sharing, and perseverance as children work together to solve problems. By incorporating everyday experiences and real-life contexts into our mathematics program, we aim to inspire curiosity and confidence, ensuring that your child develops essential skills for lifelong learning.
Outside Play
Haven House recognises the importance of outside play as a vital component of children's development in alignment with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Outdoor activities provide children with opportunities to explore and learn in a natural environment, promoting physical development through running, climbing, and balancing. These activities help build strength, coordination, and overall health. Outside play also supports personal, social, and emotional development by encouraging children to take risks, build resilience, and develop self-confidence as they interact with their peers.
The outdoor setting fosters social skills and teamwork, as children learn to share and collaborate during group play. Additionally, being outdoors enhances cognitive development by stimulating curiosity and problem-solving skills as children engage with nature and discover the world around them. Our outdoor play program is designed to be inclusive and engaging, ensuring that your child benefits from the diverse learning opportunities that the natural environment offers.
